Course Description

You are currently enrolled in HUM2420: African Humanities. Before you get started, here are a few pointers to help you succeed in this class:

  • Explore Canvas so you are familiar with the system. It is best to navigate Canvas on a computer – the phone app is terrible and disorganized. If you do not own a computer, you can use one on any SF campus or public library for free.
  • The class is organized into six Modules that include weblessons on an external course website. Each weblesson ends with a discussion prompt, and you must submit your response into the corresponding discussion in Canvas.
  • Each Module ends with a timed multiple choice assessment (quiz or exam). You can use your notes as a study guide. The assessments are open now; you can complete them at any time before the deadline.
  • All work is submitted through Canvas for grading – emailed submissions will not receive credit.
  • Late work is not accepted. Everything is loaded and open in Canvas now. If you have an obligation, you must work ahead. If you miss a deadline you can complete extra credit. You can download the icalendar from Canvas onto your phone or computer and set it to send you deadline reminders.
  • Time management is key to passing this class. You should expect to dedicate at least one hour to each topic listed in the modules, three-to five hours preparing for assessments, and at least two weeks working on your final project.
  • Review the syllabus on the next page and become familiar with the expectations of this course.

Have fun with the class. You can email me through Canvas at anytime if you have concerns about the course. I try not to live on the computer, so please provide at least two working days for a response.

Here’s to a great semester,
